ROOMMATE Episode 5

Episode Title: "You Are My Bom (Spring)"

We start the episode off checking in with the missing members, Dongwook and Kang Joon through phone calls. Both are away on set of their respective dramas. I found it funny how Se Ho mentions to Dongwook that he is lying in Dongwook's bed while making this call. They chat a bit about visiting the set and Dongwook ends the call with "get off of my bed." Minwoo and Nana make a video call to Kang Joon, which coincidentally gets cut off after Nana tells him how she misses him. Once they get back in contact with him, everyone has a round of conversations with Kang Joon, where he tells the ladies to not cry while he is away.

The night continues on with a fashion show styled by Sora, where she transformed Soo Hyun from simple to edgy and Ga Yeon into a sexy young lady. The night would not be complete without some girl talk. Aside from talking about the male roommates of the house, the conversations went deeper. Ga Yeon shares why she came to the share house and the hardships of being a female athlete in a predominately male sport. Bom reveals that she, along with the 2NE1 members aren't close to any singers due to their image and timid and eccentric personalities. Sora tells Bom that she was the reason she stayed in the house and calls her an angel. Touched by her words we see Bom going off to the bathroom later to cry. That seems to be the reason why Bom was crying at the end of last week's episode and preview.

The next day starts off with Chanyeol in the kitchen making hangover soup for Sung Woo. The ever growing Chanyeol makes his first attempt, which ends up tasting like boiled rags before he heavily starts seasoning the soup. Sora, Min Woo, and  Ga Yeon are out the door right after getting up. Sora has work while Min Woo and Ga Yeon are off to Ga Yeon's turf, the gym. During the car ride, Min Woo gives Sora the nickname "Emma-So Ra-Gance." He explains it is a combination of elegance and Emma So Ra, who the is image of sexiness.

Back at the house, Se Ho and Nana are off to visit Dongwook on set. Before they set out, Nana gets a rude awakening from Se Ho, which includes nagging and pounding on furniture. The funniest part of this ordeal was when Nana tells Mama Shin (Sung Woo) to yell at him. Sung Woo heads down to the kitchen and finds out Chanyeol has been up making soup for him. The soup gets Mama Shin's approval.

At the gym, Ga Yeon is livelier and happy after reuniting with her gym mates. On the other hand, Min Woo is beat and worn down. He seems fine with it since he gets to see a livelier Ga Yeon, but says he will never return there. I wouldn't blame the guy.

Se Ho has arranged everything before hand and away they go on their road trip. Since Sora was doing her radio show, the roommates sent in a message in hopes that Sora will read it on air. Luckily, it is aired towards the end and Se Ho and Nana rejoice. Moving forward, Nana and Se Ho were having a good time singing and even making their own lip sync cover in the car. They also stopped at a rest stop for snacks. This is where the forced love line action commenced. Thank goodness Nana shut him down instead of giving the editors enough content to make it a full fledged love line because we all know the editors will use anything and blow it out of proportion (/end rant). They are finally reunited with Dongwook and share a meal together. Dongwook's co-star Lee Dae Hee makes a quick appearance and playfully bashes Dongwook.

Back at the home, Bom and Chanyeol are off on their schedules. Sung Woo leaves to pay his taxes, leaving Soo Hyun home alone. She finds herself a new companion, Spiderman oppa. Together they go around cleaning the house. In between cleaning, she takes advantage of the karaoke set up upstairs and sings her heart out. She also takes the time to write each roommate a letter.

The roommates are trickling back to the house. Sung Woo goes straight to the kitchen to clean. Ga Yeon and Min Woo tell Soo Hyun about their day before passing out in their beds.  Instead of waking up the kids, Soo Hyun vacuums up for them. This brings up the need for a house meeting to discuss chores and any other issues in the house.

After dinner, the roommates get ready for an ambush interview with Nana and Se Ho. While Soo Hyun plays reporter and Min Woo as camerman, Sora and Sung Woo act as the onlookers. Right when they make it through the door, Soo Hyun is full of giggles as she starts reporting. Se Ho says they were on a date. Nana shuts him down again with a sassy answer. In the living room, Sung Woo and Sora are laughing at how Nana-like her response was and could already imagine her expression. The interview continues into the living room with Se Ho giving out the details of their day including how Nana was asleep for most of the trip.

Meanwhile, Chanyeol is back in the kitchen to make a late night snack for the roommates. This time he is a cooking a dish he makes for his fellow Exo members. Although he has made this before, he still fumbles a bit. It was fun to watch him cook as he yells at the littlest things as he fumbles through cooking. He even attempts to show off by trying to handle two pans at once. This only brings laughter to Ga Yeon and Min Woo who were looking on. After Chanyeol successfully finishes cooking, Min Woo and Ga Yeon are arguing about doing the dishes, which was quite amusing.

The roommates gather upstairs with their snacks for a house meeting. Some issues brought up were Sung Woo blasting rock music at dawn, Ga Yeon barging into the bathroom, taking care of the trash, and dividing chores so everyone is responsible for something. Nana addresses her issue in a funny manner, which was don't wake up Se Ho up because she doesn't want to see his face first thing in the morning. Sung Woo is laughing at this because he knows what happened that morning. Se Ho and Nana bicker back and forth. Nana is very quick-witted. She says she is very clear with what she likes and hates. So when Se Ho asked if she she liked or hated him, she responded right away saying she hated him. This makes the roommates laugh and Se Ho confesses he really likes girls like this- cool and quick-witted. The roommates then address the awkwardness between the two eldest of the group. To help with the issue, Sung Woo and Sora were made to stare into each other's eyes for five seconds. Afterwards, both confessed that this little activity only made things more uncomfortable.

No episode would not be complete without an ambush interview with Bom. The appointed reporter was Chanyeol. This marks the first aired interaction between Bom and Chanyeol, which made some viewers rejoice. Bom came in the house saying "here we go again." She answered the questions with poise and showed what she has been rehearsing. Just when she thought the interview was over, she says they didn't get any dirt on her tonight because she did nothing wrong. So Se Ho starts bombarding her a bunch of questions until he caught her off guard when he asked her if she had a good time eating with her group. Bom asked him how he knew. Se Ho responded that he didn't know and just asked.

Fast forward a few days, where Bom was a guest on Sora's radio show. They have a meal together afterwards. During their meal, Sora asks what the deal was with the text she sent the roommates. And with that the episode ends.

Thoughts:
This episode was lacking a bit. It was probably because the previous episodes were just so entertaining. While I anticipated finding out of the reason why Bom was crying, I was disappointed with the reveal. It was not because of why she was crying, but because how the editing made it seem related to her ambush interview. So when her reasoning was revealed, it totally downplayed the actual scenario because the viewer was led to believe it was something else. Something that was meaningful to Bom was misconstrued due to the editors choice to use those clips of her crying and make something else out of it for the cliffhanger and preview.
Another editing gone wrong moment was the Nana-Se Ho story line. There is no love line. Nana can reject him all she wants, but the editors use it to make them into the bickering couple. This makes me shake my head every time.
I anticipate next week's episode even though I feel I shouldn't because of the possibility of disappointment. Here's to the editors making things right next week. Don't let me down again...
