TRIANGLE Episode 26 (Finale)

As the drama comes to an end, so does some of their lives. But for the others, it is just the beginning.

Before going to meet with Pil Sang, Bok Tae gives out the orders to kill Yang Ha.

Young Dal and Dong Soo still can't reach Yang Ha. They have no choice, but to face Bok Tae's men. The two go running to the casino.

Man Bok and President Min have their men gathered. They are ordered to take out Bok Tae's men and to bring back Bok Tae if they see him.

Jung Hee is worriedly on the phone, trying to get a hold of Yang Ha.

Yang Ha strolls into Dae-Jung and is surrounded by Bok Tae's men. He is informed he has to go with them. Yang Ha isn't having it and threatens to call security. Two men grab him and another punches him. As he is being taken away, Dong Soo and Young Dal arrive. A brawl ensues. Young Dal and Dong Soo notice Yang Ha being beaten down and try to fight through the men as they make their way towards him. Man Bok and his men arrive with metal pipes in hand.

The brawl continues. Young Dal notices a man take out a knife and sees that Yang Ha in front of this man. Before he could react, Yang Ha is stabbed. Young Dal charges forward, taking out anyone in his way. He knocks out the stabber and catches Yang Ha before he falls. He calls out "Dong Woo, Dong Woo." Yang Ha looks him in the eyes and says "I'm sorry hyung." He is sorry for not calling him his brother earlier. Young Dal tries to assure him it is fine and tells him not to talk and to stay still. Yang Ha apologizes again and calls him hyung. Young Dal yells at him to stop talking while tears are running down his eyes.

Man Bok's men chases the guys out. Dong Soo goes to his brothers' sides. He calls out Dong Woo. Yang Ha looks at him and calls him hyung. He asks why Dong Soo left him as tears stream down. Yang Ha tells him he has been so lonely. Dong Soo tearfully apologizes. Yang Ha says Chairman raised him. He reaches for Dong Soo's hand and tells him he doesn't want to lose another father. He tells him stop. Yang Ha's body goes limb and the brother's tearfully yell out his name.

Dong Soo, Young Dal, and Jung Hee are at the mining site to spread Yang Ha's ashes. The scene of when they spread their father's at the same site is shown. Each brother is recalling their last few memories with Yang Ha as the ashes are being spread.

Jin Soo informs Chairman that he has given Yang Ha's ashes to his brothers and that they decided to spread his ashes at the same spot they scattered their father's. After he is left alone, Chairman recalls his previous conversation with Dong Soo. Dong Soo met with Chairman to ask him about handling Yang Ha's funeral. Chairman told him it wasn't something for them to worry about. Dong Soo takes out his cell phone and plays a video. It is of the scene in Pil Sang's office where Pil Sang and Bok Tae conspired to kill Yang Ha. Chairman is shocked. Dong Soo tells him it doesn't matter who they pin the blame on. He tells Chairman not to deny Pil Sang and Bok Tae as his real enemies.

Pil Sang enters Chairman's office. He informs him that there is an arrest warrant for Bok Tae and that he will likely try to flee. Chairman calls Pil Sang's name and finally looks at him. He asks bluntly why he did this. He always knew Pil Sang wanted Yang Ha's spot. This competition to be heir wasn't a bad thing according to him. But Pil Sang killed his opponent in a low handed manner. Pil Sang is surprised and asks what Chairman meant by this. He goes on to say Bok Tae killed Yang Ha. Chairman gives him a hard slap in the face. He plays an audio clip from the video Dong Soo showed him. Chairman is intently looking at Pil Sang as he listens. Pil Sang gets down on his knees and asks Chairman to forgive him. Chairman informs him he can't avoid this just by apologizing to him. He shares that he got the audio from Dong Soo. Chairman warns Pil Sang that Dong Soo and Young Dal will be after him when they decide to avenge their brother's death. He can either be killed by the brothers or turn himself in. Before he does so, Chairman demands that he give his shares to Dae-Jung.

Bok Tae's man is stopped at a roadblock before making his way to Bok Tae. At the hideout, Bok Tae is informed that it'll be hard for them to move out. Some of the routes are blocked off. His man hands him the bag full of cash he asked for. Bok Tae declares that they have to kill Dong Soo and Young Dal before they leave. His man informs him that plans for that are being made.

Young Dal enters President Min's office where everyone is waiting for him. He tells the crew it went well and that he said his goodbyes. Man Bok shares that Bok Tae tried escaping through one route, but failed. President Min has her men scattered throughout, blocking all possible ways out of the country. Young Dal orders Jerry to have Junho find Pil Sang's whereabouts. At Dae-Jung, Junho informs the crew that Pil Sang is currently being investigated. Pil Sang handed over his shares before turning himself in. Jerry and Jang Soo are suspicious of his actions.

Dong Soo is making his way to Chairman's office. Yang Ha's last words replay in his mind. In the office, Dong Soo thanks him for letting them handle the funeral. He shares Yang Ha's last words. Dong Soo believes all of these deaths stem from Chairman's greed. Dong Soo is willing to forgive and end the feud with Chairman if he repents on his wrongdoings. Chairman looks him in the eyes and says he hasn't done anything that needed their forgiveness. To him, Yang Ha's death was the brothers' fault. Dong Soo is pissed. Even though Yang Ha was loyal to Chairman 'til the end, Chairman is still the same. Dong Soo declares that he will never forgive him unless he gives up his greed. Chairman yells at him to shut up. To end their feud, Chairman tells him they need to back off and away from him.

Dong Soo and Young Dal meet up on the rooftop. Dong Soo tells him about the meeting. Young Dal expected Chairman's reaction. He doesn't believe Chairman would ever throw away his greed. Dong Soo asks what he is going to do. Young Dal tells him he is going to take Chairman's power over the casino. They settle things- Dong Soo will take care of Bok Tae while Young Dal takes care of Chairman.

Jerry and Jang Soo stop Leader Bae. They inform him it isn't too late to side with Young Dal. All he has to do is admit his wrongdoing and Young Dal will likely accept him seeing as how he used to consider him family.

Young Dal and Miss Sung meet up. She is still in disbelief about Yang Ha's death. Young Dal informs her they were brothers. The reason why he asked to meet is because he wants to pull out from the deal. It should have been Yang Ha's deal to begin with. Young Dal believes his interference made Yang Ha suffer. Because of that he can't be apart of the deal. Miss Sung asks how long he knew they were brothers. He answers honestly. They both knew of their bloodline, but they still continued to fight because of their pride. Even though he feels like he shouldn't be considered an older brother, he knows that Yang Ha was very lonely. Miss Sung is teary eyed as she hears this. Young Dal hopes that Yang Ha will be a happy memory for her. He thanks her for her help before leaving. The tears finally fall as Miss Sung is left alone.

Young Dal is almost attacked in a parking garage. President Min gets a call, informing her of the incident. Bok Tae was behind it. She orders Man Bok to go question the attacker.

Bok Tae's man returns to the hideout with food. While eating, Bok Tae asks how things are going. His man breaks it him that all of their routes are blocked off. He asks Bok Tae to be patient. Bok Tae snaps. He beats his man to the ground and demands that he finds him a way out.

President Min and Man Bok are interrogating the attacker, who denies knowing anything.

Junho hands Young Dal a USB drive he found in Yang Ha's office. It contains shocking information.

Dong Soo's old team informs Dong Soo that they might have located Bok Tae. Dong Soo tells them he'll take of it himself. He wants to end things with his own hands.

Bok Tae wakes from his sleep. He sees a letter left behind. Turns out his man reached his breaking point. He left with Bok Tae's money. In the letter, he tells Bok Tae to repent on his wrongdoings.

Dong Soo arrives to the hideout. Bok Tae is just sitting like he expected Dong Soo. He seems defeated as he tells Dong Soo that he has no energy for their one last fight. Dong Soo has been waiting for this moment and grabs Bok Tae to stand. Bok Tae has been waiting for this moment as well and a fight ensues. Dong Soo wraps a cord around his hands before he starts punching. Once on top of him, Dong Soo continues to punch Bok Tae in the face. Man Bok and his men were just casually scouting the area when they see the fight. Man Bok rushes to hold back Dong Soo while his men drag Bok Tae out. Man Bok tries to calm Dong Soo down by reminding him of Young Dal.

President Min goes to inform Young Dal that his brother captured Bok Tae. If it weren't for Man Bok, Dong Soo would have surely killed Bok Tae. Young Dal extends his thanks before leaving to take care of something urgent. Sensing that things are off with Young Dal, President Min asks Jang Soo about it. He explains that Young Dal has been worried ever since he came upon some information about Dae-Jung's corruption. They are both confused about why he isn't using this information to end things with Chairman.

As Young Dal is staring at the USB drive, he remembers Yang Ha's last words. The crew enters his office. He orders Junho to destroy the USB drive. He explains that Dong Woo wouldn't want him to destroy Chairman using his information. Instead, he believes Bok Tae and Pil Sang will be the ones to do this.

Young Dal and Leader Hwan meet on the rooftop. He asks if she is still in contact with Pil Sang. She tries to defer the conversation by telling him Pil Sang is being investigated. Young Dal knows he isn't being detained. She confesses that they have been in contact. He asks her to relay a message to Pil Sang.

Dong Soo meets with his friend to get an update on Bok Tae's case. His friend is the one that is going to interrogate Bok Tae. Dong Soo informs him that they can get to Chairman through Bok Tae.

Young Dal gets a call from Dong Soo. Young Dal informs him that he relayed his message to Pil Sang. Dong Soo shares that they'll get Bok Tae to reveal Chairman's corruption.Young Dal reminds him of Dong Woo's wish and somberly asks if Dong Woo would understand their actions. Dong Soo tries to assure him that Dong Woo would understand and tells Young Dal to not get upset over this.

Jin Soo informs Chairman that Pil Sang handed over to the police all files of their slush fund. Chairman is shocked and orders Jin Soo to get their attorney on the case. After Jin Soo leaves, Chairman calls Pil Sang and asks why he is doing this despite his promise to support him. Pil Sang confesses that he can't trust Chairman anymore. Chairman reminds him that he is done for if he doesn't trust him. Pil Sang says he'll take care of himself and tells Chairman to do the same. After being hung up on, Chairman tries calling someone else- Senator Kim to be exact. He warns him of their issue and says they need to make sure their stories match before being investigated.

In the interrogation room, an audio file is being played for Bok Tae. It is of his conversation with Chairman where he was ordered to take care of Dong Soo. Bok Tae admits that this was his order to kill Dong Soo. The interrogator asks for Go Dae Cheul's whereabouts(guy who stabbed Dong Soo). Bok Tae denies knowing where. Instead, Bok Tae asks if he can make a call to Chairman.

Chairman answers the call as if he was expecting it. He tells Bok Tae to get to the point. Bok Tae shares that he told the police all about their deals. Before hanging up, Bok Tae tells him he'll see him in jail. Chairman stumbles from the shock.

Young Dal goes to see Chairman. Young Dal wanted to see him as this might be the last time. He informs Chairman that everyone abandoned him, which is tough to recover from. Young Dal has just one thing to ask him- is the thing he was desperately trying to hold on to more important than a person's life? Young Dal hopes that he'll answer to Dong Woo so that Dong Woo can rest in peace. Young Dal gets up and leaves. Jin Soo enters just after. He informs Chairman that the police are there to bring him in and that he can still escape. Chairman tells him to leave. Now alone, Chairman goes to his safe to get his gun. He pulls it out and goes back to his seat. As Young Dal is walking, he hears a gunshot. He looks back toward Chairman's office.

Some residences of Sabuk have gathered in the conference room in Dae-Jung. Young Dal, Jang Soo, and Jerry enter. Jang Soo announces that CEO Jang is in the room and asks everyone to have a seat. Young Dal greets everyone. He is aware of their worries. He declares that he'll share their worries and will help to alleviate them.

In his office, Young Dal informs President Min that he'll make her a shareholder of the casino. Young Dal believes this gesture is nothing in comparison to how much she helped and cared for him. He declares that he'll be repaying her for the rest of his life. Next, he hands an envelope to Man Bok. It is the money he owed Man Bok from before. Man Bok questions if he can accept. Young Dal informs him that he won the gamble. Man Bok shouts for joy and thanks him.

At the airport, Young Dal and Jung Hee catch Dong Soo just in time. Young Dal explains that he came so that Dong Soo won't complain later about sending him off. They share some laughs before Young Dal hands him his credit card. Dong Soo rejects at first before ultimately he accepts it. Dong Soo asks Jung Hee to take care of Young Dal for him. Jung Hee tells him not to worry. As the brothers are hugging, Dong Soo tells Young Dal that he is grateful to have him as his brother.

During the car ride back, Jung Hee is all smiles. Young Dal asks why. Jung Hee was recalling how she saw Young Dal running around in his underwear that one time. She shares that she is still shocked when she thinks of how much he changed. Young Dal recalls a movies he once saw. In it, a man had a diamond embedded in his arm to symbolize his last gamble. Young Dal thought about doing that as well, but doesn't feel the need to now. He explains it is because he has her in his heart and that is all he'll ever need.

Narrative:
The end of any desire is death.
Father was a coal miner.
The end of the tunnel where miner's are sent to break through is called the pitch.
The pitch is like hell.
My life was once a dark tunnel with no light in sight.
At the end of my tunnel, someone miraculously appeared.
Because of love, I started to have dreams.
Now I'm standing under a flood of sunlight.
If you want to escape from your life's pitch, try loving someone.
Because you may hit your own jackpot.

Thoughts:

<READ THIS FIRST>
<ALTERNATE ARTICLE>

The extension seemed to have really changed the direction of the ending. That is for sure.

Even before knowing the original ending, I thought the ending was good (not great, but not utterly disappointing either). I wished there would have been more to Yang Ha's death. It just seemed liked he died because he was weak. If there were to be a death of one of the brothers, I would've thought it would have had more meaning. Like a "sacrificing yourself for one of the others" type of deal. [Or they could have just kept Yang Ha alive and made up some story line that wouldn't require having him appear onscreen. - my own personal wish]

After reading the article about the original ending, I definitely prefer this ending to the original. If there was one person who would sacrifice himself for the ones he cared about, it is Young Dal. So if he were to die so randomly like how it was originally intended, I would have had a fit. I just hate it when good dramas give you lackluster endings (I'm looking at you God's Gift- 14 Days).

I'm still wondering about the ending though...would Yang Ha still have died if Im Siwan was able to film for the last episode? If he could have, would Young Dal have to die like how he was originally supposed? If Young Dal died, would it have been in the same manner as in the original script? So many questions...

The narrative at the end was nice and it wrapped up things well.

Working with what they had (unexpected extension, not having all actors to film the extension), I applaud the writers for not giving us a terrible ending.

Overall, it is a good drama. Despite some things they couldn't control, they didn't drop the ball.
